Outer membrane vesicle (OMV) vaccines offer mucosal and systemic protection in a naturally self-adjuvanting particle, but turning that promise into a clinical candidate depends on CMC readiness as much as immunogenicity. OMVs bring process, analytical, and formulation challenges distinct from protein, DNA, or mRNA platforms, and closing that gap takes close collaboration between innovator and CDMO from an early stage.
This talk explores that collaboration through the lens of a live partnership: NorthX Biologics, an expert CDMO in precision fermentation, and Abera Bioscience, developer of the BERA OMV platform. Drawing on the CMC needs specific to OMV production, formulation, and characterization, alongside Abera’s platform data and pipeline progress, including its lead pneumococcal candidate, the speakers show what a genuine developer-CDMO partnership looks like in practice, and what it takes to carry a vaccine product from early research to clinical-stage manufacturing.
